Overview

Language Sampling with Adolescents: Implications for Intervention, now in its second edition, provides guidelines for analyzing spoken and written language production in adolescents. It is geared toward graduate students and speech-language pathologists who work with middle school and high school students (Grades 5-12). Included within the book are tables, figures, and practical exercises (with answer keys) to help readers understand how to analyze the content and structure of the different adolescent language genres--conversational, narrative, expository, and persuasive--and how to utilize this information in establishing functional language goals and implementing intervention activities for adolescents with language disorders.

"The book starts with a brief introduction by Dr. Nippold into the why of language sampling for older children. It includes a Note To Instructors that breaks down the suggested format for using the text as a text for university classes in language assessment and intervention...

In the Verbs section, its broken down by main, copula, auxiliary, modal, finite, and nonfinite. I can see this being very helpful for many people (including SLPs). I love the exercises that are included [in Part II: Grammar Review and Exercises]!

I can see this book being a great supplement to an adolescent language course and for those of us that may not work with adolescents often, a great reminder for some potential difficulties that we may be called on to remediate.
