"The fields of allergy, immunology, and otolaryngology are inextricably linked. Immunologic dysregulation is recognized to be the underpinning of a wide variety of diseases of the head and neck, and on a daily basis the practicing otolaryngologist must draw upon principles of allergy and immunology in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. For example, it is a rare patient presenting with a sinonasal complaint in whom consideration of allergic etiologies is not relevant. About The Editors
David L. Rosenstreich, MD, is professor (medicine, otolaryngology, and microbiology and immunology), chief of the Division of Allergy and Immunology, and codirector of the Severe Asthma Center for Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His research currently focuses on the effects of indoor and outdoor environmental factors on asthma and the pathophysiology and treatment of urticaria.
Marvin P. Fried, MD, FACS, completed his residency at Washington University, in St. Louis, and served in the U.S. Public Health Service. He joined the faculty at Boston University, Tufts University, then Harvard Medical School, where he was promoted to professor of otology and laryngology. He later became professor of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery and university chairman at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center.
Gabriele S. de Vos, MD, MSc, is assistant professor of medicine and chief of the Division of Allergy and Immunology at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, New York. Her research focuses on mechanisms and efficacy of allergy immunotherapy, diagnostic methods of hypersensitvity, and the role of allergy in pediatric asthma.
Alexis H. Jackman, MD, FACS, is an otolaryngologist/head and neck surgeon with a subspecialty in rhinology/endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery. She earned her medical degree with distinction from George Washington University, and completed her internship in general surgery and residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at the New York University School of Medicine.
