Overview
Jargon-free and comprehensive in coverage, this handbook has been written by members of the Dallas Cochlear Implant Program to serve the needs of parents considering CI implantation for their children. Their rationale in writing the book was to ensure that parents had a reliable information source to supplement advices from medical and allied health professionals, to help enable them to make informed decisions.
From surgical considerations, through insurance and lifestyle issues, to counseling, this book is an ideal patient hand-out, or should at the very least be recommended as a primary source of information. It further meets the needs of medical and allied health professionals in the communication sciences in understanding and being able to serve the information needs of parents in this situation.

"This book was written by members of the Dallas Cochlear Implant Program, to serve the needs of parents considering cochlear implantation for their children. It provides a balanced introduction to the topic, offering comprehensive, accessible information and interesting case studies. It would be very useful for parents making informed decisions about treatment. It would also be a valuable additon to the bookshelves of medial and allied health professionals seeking to understand this topic on a multidisciplinary basis and wishing to serve the information needs of parents considering cochlear implantation for their children."
